The Willowell Foundation is seeking a licensed pre-k teacher with a love for the outdoors and early education. This is an opportunity for someone who wants to incorporate a passion for working with young children with a knowledge and respect for the natural world. We are seeking someone who is able and excited to spend their full days outside through all weather; guiding young children ages 3-5 in safe, play-based, and emergent outdoors education.

Summary

This four month, full time (40 hours) position, runs with the Addison Northeast Supervisory District calendar. This job runs from late August until early January with potential for staying on at a reduced number of hours beyond this time period.  The Wren’s Nest Associate Teacher will work directly with students ages 3-5 in an immersive outdoor setting. They will collaborate with other staff members, attend trainings and events in the area, and assist the Director in keeping the program in good standing with STARS and Vermont State licensing regulations. The right candidate will have experience in nature-based education and a love for the outdoors.

 

About Wren’s Nest:

The Wren’s Nest Forest Preschool, run by The Willowell Foundation, is a licensed 4 STAR program serving children ages 3-5. In August of 2021, the Wrens’ Nest Forest Preschool moved to Bristol on a farm with 10 acres of diverse ecosystems and adjacent to publicly accessible lumber company land with miles of trails.. We currently enroll 15 children a day from 8:30-2:30 with extended programming until 4:30. We do not have a fenced playground or typical play yard. The students and staff spend their days hiking, exploring and learning from the land. As weather permits, the students and staff play, eat and rest outdoors year round. 

Qualifications:

  • An early childhood or an early childhood special education endorsement license.  
  • Dedication to place-based education and a passion for exploring the natural environment. Candidates with a working knowledge of local flora, fauna,and seasonal changes to Vermont’s landscape will be given preference.
  • Experience working with young children from varying socio economic backgrounds
  • An interest in working as a team to develop curriculum and communicate with families
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • The ability to work well as a team member, with a high level of flexibility
  • A love for the outdoors and a desire to explore and create with children
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • The ability to adhere to and maintain strict licensing regulations, state credentials, and reporting requirements 
  • Strong knowledge in developing and implementing a developmentally appropriate emergent curriculum for preschoolers
  • Ability to work in varied conditions of the Vermont weather, while ensuring the safety of children
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate (by 9/21). 
  • Age 21 years or older
  • Ability to successfully complete required background checks
