Manzano Day School is looking for a Director of Fenton Ranch, our unique residential environmental education facility in the Jemez Mountains, 80 miles north of Albuquerque, New Mexico. This Director should take Joy in Learning® to the great outdoors to help students gain awareness and appreciation for the natural world as they learn ecological concepts, develop personal reliance skills, and practice outdoor abilities.

Summary

The mission of the Fenton Ranch program is to provide all students at Manzano Day School with yearly environmental education experiences. 

The Director of Fenton Ranch is responsible for teaching a curriculum-based program for pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students at Fenton Ranch during the fall, spring, and summer. During the winter, the Director of Fenton Ranch integrates the Fenton Ranch curriculum into the classroom by working with pre-kindergarten through fourth-grade students and faculty.  

Additionally, the Director of Fenton Ranch will recruit, hire, train and supervise program staff oversee the day-to-day operations of Fall and Spring programs design and implement a summer residential camp program participate in long-term planning and goal setting interact with the Fenton Ranch caretaker maintain safety and evacuation plans be involved in minor repairs and upkeep of Fenton Ranch oversee financial reimbursements and staff payroll design, maintain, order, and purchase instructional materials interact with faculty, school administration, parents, and students present information about the Fenton Ranch program during parent meetings participate in educational activities and projects at school maintain accurate electronic files and data on programs.

The qualified candidate for this position will: 

  • be Wilderness First Responder certified or trained in First Aid and CPR and willing to get certified as a Wilderness First Responder
  • hold a degree in environmental education or a related field
  • have experience working with children, families, and educators
  • hold a valid driver’s license and complete a successful background check
