The Newfound Lake Region Association seeks a full-time, year-round Education and Outreach Manger to build an education program for the Newfound Watershed.

Summary

Position Summary

The Education and Outreach Manager oversees all education initiatives and programs under the direction of the Executive Director and the guidance established by the current Strategic Plan. The Education and Outreach Manager manages all education programs and events, coordinates NLRA events and programs, collaborates with NLRA partner organizations, coordinates NLRA’s EcoTours, and delivers programming to area schools. The Education and Outreach Manager is a full-time exempt position and works in collaboration with all NLRA staff, volunteers, and partners to deliver the NLRA mission to protect Newfound Lake and its watershed.

Essential Responsibilities

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Manages all education and outreach programs and activities and develops new programs and activities in accordance with the NLRA’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Recruits/hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates all education and outreach program staff and volunteers, and, subject to management concurrence, provides disciplinary action, in accordance with NLRA policies.
  • Assists in the development of a budget and operating plan for education and outreach program and provides oversight and administration of program and project budgets.
  • Assists with preparing and submitting grant applications and sponsorship requests to fund education and outreach programs.
  • Develops and standardizes procedures and methods to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of education and outreach programs and activities and implements and manages changes and interventions to ensure goals are met.
  • Stays knowledgeable of environmental education practices and other programs offered in New Hampshire and beyond.
  • Responds to inquiries and provides information to supporters and the general public about lake and watershed management and conservation topics.
  • Prepares and directs the preparation of a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures, and other written material, including data collection and analysis, aimed at different audiences.
  • Ensures education and outreach program staff and volunteers observe and comply with NLRA personnel rules and safety policies, and applicable state and federal labor laws.
  • Represents NLRA at external events during and outside of normal office hours.
  • Collaborates with all NLRA staff on collaborative projects, programming, events, and fundraising efforts.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of environmental education
  • Ability to prepare and present environmental education programming to different audiences
  • Knowledge of lake and watershed ecology
  • Ability to drive a motor boat
  • Ability to communicate--both written and verbally—clearly and effectively to a broad and diverse audience.
  • Leadership skills that can be applied to staff and volunteer management
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to apply creative problem-solving skills to program management
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of colleagues, community members, and partners.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in natural resource management/conservation, education/environmental education, or a related field
  • Two years of work experience in the field of natural resource conservation or management, or a related field.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds for short distances and to hike distances up to one mile
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable automobile
