Summary
The education team helps young people grow to be inquisitive, empathetic stewards of nature by equipping them with knowledge and skills through a combination of classroom lessons, field trips, ecological restoration projects, and high school internships. The education team is at the forefront of the organization’s efforts to build meaningful and authentic connections with some of the most diverse communities in the region.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a passion for helping young people make personal positive connections with nature. Candidates should enjoy working collaboratively, be comfortable working outdoors in variable weather, and have a strong background in environmental education. Relevant experience may include teaching in the classroom, leading groups outdoors, planning or implementing educational activities, or working with groups of teens. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion principles into their work.
Primary Responsibilities
- Co-lead a restoration-focused summer internship for high school students.
- Teach 4th-12th grade students in classroom and field settings.
- Coordinate school-year education programming.
- Assist in program evaluation and communication.
- Work in variable weather, hike up to three miles, walk on uneven terrain, and carry a lightweight backpack.
- Have an insurable driving record and reliable transportation to schools and project sites across King County.
Desired Qualifications
- Education or work experience in environmental education.
- Experience working with groups of teens.
- Curiosity to learn about topics such as forest ecology, salmon, plant identification, and ecological restoration techniques.
Reports To: Education Program Manager
Compensation: Salary is $46,000 to $53,000 annually depending on experience. The Greenway Trust offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental and vision plans, paid vacation and sick leave, retirement plan, ORCA pass, and more.
Schedule: The Education Coordinator is a full-time, non-exempt position, who typically works Monday to Friday with occasional evening and Saturday events.
Location: As a result of the COVID pandemic, Greenway Trust employees are currently working remotely. However, the organization will be moving to a hybrid model working both remotely and in the office as the COVID numbers continue to decline. When that happens, this position will be based at the Greenway Trust’s Seattle office (2701 First Avenue, Suite 240, Seattle, WA 98121) and will include work from home opportunities. The position includes regular travel to schools and restoration sites around King County. The Greenway Trust provides a work laptop computer and cell phone to employees.
