Reporting to the Education Director, the Enrichment Program Manager will be primarily responsible for AMM’s Summer Camp programming. The The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park is seeking an Enrichment Program Manager. This full-time position manages all AMM’s out of school programming year-round, including summer camps, school’s out camp, afterschool programs, and other enrichment programs.

Summary

The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park (AMM), a non-profit organization based in the Eastport community of Annapolis, seeks an organized, personable, and enthusiastic individual, who will provide oversight of its Environmental Education Programs and operations at its Park Campus. 

About AMM: 
The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park educates youth and adults about the area’s rich maritime heritage and the ecology of the Chesapeake Bay through programs, exhibits, and community events. We accomplish this mission through an engaging suite of hands-on programming and by bringing visitors to our two unique locations, both on Back Creek. The Museum is open to the public Tuesday – Sunday, 10 am – 3 pm. Ellen O. Moyer Park is open to the public every day from dawn to dusk.

Job Description: 
The Enrichment Program Manager engages students, teachers, and other participants through high quality environmental education experiences that highlight the area’s unique maritime culture along with the history, beauty, and ecology of the Chesapeake Bay. Reporting to the Education Director, the Enrichment Program Manager will be primarily responsible for AMM’s Summer Camp programming. The Enrichment Program Manager will manage all AMM’s out of school programming year-round, including summer camps, school’s out camp, afterschool programs, and other enrichment programs. There are opportunities to expand our enrichment offerings through the creation of teacher professional development programming and through partnership building. The Enrichment Program Manager will work as part of a four-person team with AMM’s Education Program Manager, School Program Manager, Community Program Manager, and Education Director. This position primarily operates out of The Park Campus.

This is a full-time position – 40 hours per week, located at the Park Campus in Annapolis – 7300 Edgewood Rd. Annapolis, MD 21403.

Duties of the position include: 

  • Management of AMM Enrichment Programs
    • Develop, schedule, lead, and evaluate summer camps, school’s out camp, afterschool programs, and other enrichment programs as needed 
    • Manage program pricing, invoicing, and financial transactions; assist with budget development for camps and enrichment programs
    • Foster and maintain positive relationships with camp and program partners
    • Obtain all necessary camp licensing 
    • Ensure that Education Programs are safe, experiential, and of the highest quality 
  • Supervision of Education Contractors, Volunteers, and Interns
    • Recruit, hire, train, manage, and schedule summer camp staff including teachers and college interns
    • Oversee the delegation of programming responsibilities to volunteers and interns prior to and during camp and enrichment programs
    • Recruit and manage students for high school internship and service-learning programs
    • Assist the Education Program Manager with the scheduling of education volunteers 
    • Assist with the recruitment and mentorship of Chesapeake Conservation Corps Intern
  • Environmental Education
    • Research and design instructional materials, lesson content, visuals, demonstrations, hands-on games, art projects, etc.
    • Facilitate and deliver camp and enrichment programs at both museum campuses and in school classrooms
    • Manage education materials and inventories, including reorders and organization of supplies
    • Assist in the development and implementation of school programs 
    • Assist with management of lesson materials and animal/aquarium care
  • Administrative Responsibilities and Grant Management
    • Assist the Education Director with grant writing and reporting and pursue additional grants
    • Manage and retain accurate records of participation for all enrichment programs
    • Assist the Education Program Manager with promotion of camp and enrichment programming
    • Responds to inquiries, phone calls, and email in a timely and responsive manner

Expertise and Skills Required for the Position:

  • 3-5 years of experience staffing, scheduling, and leading summer camps
  • A strong desire to teach in the field/outdoors and inspire students on a daily basis 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Knowledge of environmental issues and Bay ecology
  • Strong time management skills including planning, coordination, and organization is required
  • Experience working with volunteers and/or organizing community events and activities is preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical ability to lift and carry heavy objects, at least 50 pounds (kayaks and other equipment)
  • This physically demanding position involves frequent exposure to the elements
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends
  • Ability to travel to attend meetings and trainings

Qualifications: 

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years of experience teaching in either a formal or non-formal setting
  • is preferred; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. 
  • Hours: Exempt (Salary); some evenings and weekends required. Flex schedules available.
  • Travel: Within Anne Arundel County and occasionally the surrounding area (e.g. Baltimore)
  • Compensation: The salary range for this position is $42,000 to $46,000 and is based upon a wage analysis across the organization. The Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park values work-life balance and a family-friendly atmosphere.
