Summary
PEI has an exciting opportunity for a passionate and engaging person that will work to create and support programming for secondary educators to prepare students interested in entering green economy careers. This is a one-year minimum grant-funded position to work 40 hours per week, in our Olympia office or home-based (remote). Candidates are expected to reside in Washington.
The FieldSTEM Green Jobs Coordinator is the statewide point of contact for PEI’s work to create and support programming for secondary educators to prepare students interested in entering green economy careers - renewable natural resource, agriculture, conservation, outdoor recreation, environmental education, and environmental sciences. The position manages development of PEI resources and professional learning for secondary and CTE educators and creates partnerships with employers and post-secondary institutions to provide authentic work-integrated learning and career launch opportunities. This position is responsible for creating and maintaining partnerships with school districts, educational leaders, nonformal educators and local green economy employers to strengthen PEI’s CTE and Green Jobs programs. This work will help lead PEI’s current initiative to expand equitable green opportunities for youth. This is a statewide position with flexibility to work remotely or in Olympia, requires travel within the state and possibly to national conferences or events. PEI is a statewide organization based out of Olympia, Washington.
Primary Responsibilities
Represent and contribute to PEI’s professional presence and strategic goals
- Be a positive ambassador of PEI
- Work within the mission to implement strategic plan goals
- Attend and contribute to statewide PEI professional learning workshops/opportunities and staff meetings
Lead PEI’s Career Connected Learning
- Manage decisions regarding best practices for statewide career connected learning (CCL) programs
- Assure alignment with OSPI’s and Employment Security’s work to implement state and federal CTE and workforce development legislation
- Reinforce and assure an emphasis on secondary CTE integrated learning experiences, certification, and dual credit options
- Work with the development staff to support grant writing and other funding opportunities
- Lead development of career connected learning goals, track progress and provide reports
- Generate FieldSTEM green jobs media content for organizational communication efforts
Support and Develop components of a natural resource and conservation pathway
- Develop components of a braided pathway from middle school to green economy jobs
- Collaborate with education sector and regional FieldSTEM Coordinators to facilitate and support the integration of career connected opportunities as they implement FieldSTEM
- Work with PEI staff and education community to identify and develop regional facilitators and teachers to provide leadership, facilitation, support, and expertise
- Facilitate industry focused meetings to facilitate dual credit, worksite visits, internships, mentorships or development of Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs) for students aligned to CTE frameworks
- Develop high-quality, career-based projects and activities in collaboration with employers that can be implemented in classroom
Professional Learning and Development of Resources
- Coordinate and/or deliver CTE framework professional learning opportunities in collaboration with PEI faculty, facilitators, staff and community partners
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree and 3+ years of experience with formal classroom education, workforce development or natural resource and conservation program management or equivalent lived experience.
- Experience working with and leading adults; skilled in meeting and workshop facilitation.
- Experience developing and providing professional learning for career-connected learning programs, including those accessible through a skills center, career and guidance counseling, or post-secondary workforce education.
- Knowledge of the multiple education and workforce systems in the state including CTE pathways and programs, skills centers, state career and technical colleges and state and federal requirements and legislation guiding CTE, career connected learning and workforce development.
- Up to date on initiatives in education, e.g., Universal Design for Learning, Social Emotional Learning, Washington State Learning Standards, Since Time Immemorial.
- Awareness of key green economy sectors (natural resources, renewable energy, agriculture and food systems, outdoor recreation, environmental conservation).
- Experience working with secondary students.
- Self-directed, takes initiative to accomplish goals, working both independently and as part of a team.
- Professional, positive, creative, flexible, committed to education, teachers, and students.
- Experience in and commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI).
- Ability to provide own transportation and proof of auto insurance coverage.
- Ability and willingness to work with Microsoft Office, Google, Salesforce, and other software programs.
Wages and Employment Information
This is a full-time position - 40 hours per week. Wages are $35.00 per hour dependent on successful applicant’s qualifications and experience. This is a temporary position anticipated to last a minimum of one year, it does not qualify for health, vision or dental coverage but does include paid holidays, vacation/sick leave benefits.
