Summary
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Head of School will lead Mountain Village in all aspects of its educational programs, ongoing expansion, and overall execution of its mission.The successful candidate for the MVCS Head of School will possess a can-do attitude and will enjoy involvement in some of the hands-on aspects of running a vibrant elementary and middle school. The position will start on July 1, 2022.
The MVCS Head of School wears many hats and fills many roles, with responsibilities in the following areas:
Educational Leadership, such as:
- Educational outcome assessment in all domains of the school’s educational program
- Leading the hiring and development of all faculty and staff
- Assessing faculty teaching effectiveness
- Stewarding the school’s financial and facility resources
- Promotion of a school culture in alignment with the school’s mission and educational program among students, faculty and staff
- Working closely with the Board of Trustees in all areas of school leadership
- Prioritize communication among the faculty and between the faculty/administration and the parents in all facets of school life
- Providing an atmosphere free of any bias in which students can achieve their maximum potential
- Meeting and listening to concerns of students on a regular basis and enforcing the behavior policy when necessary
- Meeting with parents and teachers on an as needed basis to ensure collaborative communication between home and school
- Facilitating special school events (e.g. Winter Solstice Gathering)
- Modeling professional ethics and standards at all times
School Administration, such as:
- Department of Education reporting
- Special Education administration
- Enrollment management/student recruitment and retention
- Campus safety and health oversight (including COVID policy implementation)
- Interacting with school landlords and shared tenants
- Organizational Development, such as:
- Working with Trustees and Family Committee to implement Annual Campaign and other annual fundraising activities
- Working with Trustees in the development and implementation of a Capital Campaign
- Community and Professional Relationships, such as:
- Maintaining highly effective relationships with administration and teachers from local SAU48 and all other sending school districts
- Representing MVCS in professional associations and conferences, with the goal of exposing the school’s curriculum to a wider audience (state, national, global)
- New Project Leadership, such as:
- Work with Board of Trustees to further land development and facility construction
- Further the development of MVCS’s path-breaking educational approach into a replicable curriculum
Compensation and benefits:
Salary range: $60,000-$90,000, negotiable, commensurate with experience
Annual health stipend: $5000 to be used directly for qualified health and wellness expenses (Refer to Health and Wellness policy)
Additional compensation: The Head of School is entitled to a percentage (up to 2%) of grant revenue for the purpose of administering the grants and in compensation for pursuing grant opportunities. This percentage is limited to grants in which administrative fees are eligible and approved.
Paid leave: 15 annual vacation days (to be used when school is not in session), 6 personal days and 10 sick days a year

Qualifications:
All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience in an educational organization or setting. Desired qualifications include::
Minimum qualifications:
- Advanced degree in education or a relevant field or commensurate experience
- A minimum of 3 years of educational leadership experience
- Prior successful experience in teaching
Additional desirable qualifications:
- A solid understanding of New Hampshire special education and section 504 laws
- Familiarity with and commitment to Montessori philosophy and practice and Nature-based education
- Familiarity with charter schools
- A demonstrated commitment to quality in academic programs
- Prior leadership in nonprofit organizations
