Summary
Lead Springs Technician with Friends of Nevada Wilderness
Location: Las Vegas office with extensive travel throughout Clark County and into Nye and Lincoln Counties
Supervisor: Springs Program Lead
Employee Classification: Full-time (Non-Exempt), Hourly Seasonal Position. Potential to be extended for an additional 18 months as a Regular salaried position.
Schedule: Flexible 40-hour week with frequent weekend and occasional overnight travel

Friends of Nevada Wilderness is a statewide conservation non-profit founded in 1984. Friends’ mission is to protect all present and potential wilderness from ongoing threats, educate the public about the values of and need for wilderness, and improve the management and restoration of wild lands.
Friends of Nevada Wilderness is hiring a full-time Springs Technician for a six-month term (with potential for an additional 18-month term) to collect vital data from springs sources throughout Clark County with some work in both Nye and Lincoln counties. This is a full-time, hourly position that includes the following main duties:
- This position will support our community science program focused on engaging volunteers to access, monitor, and conduct basic assessments of springs located in southern Nevada.
- Support and after training period potentially lead volunteer monitoring and training trips in southern Nevada’s backcountry, with safety and care of volunteers the top priority, including pre- and post-trip logistics, packing, unloading and cleaning, and volunteer data entry and reporting.
- Safely and thoroughly collect data on springs in the field, including water chemistry, hydrology, site condition, presence of invasive species, etc. with a staff member, an AmeriCorps service member, and/or volunteers. Accessing springs often requires driving on unimproved roads and hiking and navigating on and off trail.
- Overseeing day-to-day work of AmeriCorps and volunteers in the field.
- Coordinate completion of data entry and complete data quality control.
- Collaborate with the Communications Team to recruit volunteers through education programs, presentations, community events, and print, social, and news media.
Skills and Abilities: Must be 18 years of age or older with a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record. Excellent organizational and communication skills, comfortable and effective with public speaking and giving directions. Ability to work with people from different backgrounds and experiences. Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to hike for up to ten hours with a 25-pound backpack over challenging terrain and ability to sit for up to four hours at a time - accessing springs often requires driving on unimproved roads and hiking and navigating on and off trail. Attention to detail and organizational skills. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.
Experience and Education: Degree in science field or equivalent job or volunteer experience or background required. Volunteer or crew management experience is helpful.
Compensation: $19.75 - 21.65 per hour, dependent on experience and skills, plus Paid Holidays and monthly health care stipend. Potential to expand term an additional 6-18 months based on secured funding and deliverables.
