Summary
Tin Mountain Conservation Center, a not for profit environmental education center based in the Mount Washington Valley of New Hampshire, is seeking a MS/HS Environmental Science Educator for a 9 month seasonal position starting March of 2022. This position is classified as temporary/hourly with the possibility of growing into year round/benefited, contingent upon funding. Regular scheduled workhours will be Monday-Friday with occasional weekend work.
Summary: Reports to, and works closely with the Education Director and HS Programs Manager to develop, prepare, and execute high quality environmental education programs and environmental science classes for our increasing demand of school programs serving students K-12. Emphasis during the school-year will be teaching a regular Environmental Science class at the high school level as well as to serve as the lead for an immersive middle school field-science project. Summer programming encompasses our traditional camp programs as well as occasional family and adult programming.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement grade appropriate standards-based lessons for middle school and high school students in the classroom and outdoors.
- Represent TMCC’s organizational mission at schools and to the general public.
- Assist HS Program Manager and Education Director with program logistics and preparation, including pre-visit communication, development of props and materials, facility maintenance, and curriculum development.
- Prepare and maintain school program curriculum materials and teaching supplies
- Safely lead participants in mountainous terrain and/or navigation of both flat and moving water bodies.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in natural science, environmental education, or related field. At least 1 year of experience in environmental education/outdoor education or traditional classroom.
- Ability to work outdoors in variable weather conditions and travel over uneven terrain.
- Ability to work both independently and on a team with minimal supervision.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Valid driver's license and personal transportation.
- Criminal history background checks will be required.
- Current first aid/CPR certification or ability to obtain certification.
