Prairie School of DuPage is a small, private, nature-based preschool through 8th-grade school in Wheaton, IL, located on 42 acres of woods, wetlands, and meadows. We are looking for a music teacher for our Kindergarten through 8th-grade classes. This is an exciting and rewarding position for the right teacher!

Summary

Kindergarten through 8th-grade Choir and General Music 

May be combined with an assistant teacher position for a full-time, salaried position, depending on general classroom experience and interest

Classes with approx. 12 students per class. The Elementary Choir and General Music Instructor is responsible for providing authentic, holistic choir and general music instruction to Prairie School of DuPage students. The ideal candidate will engage students using gentle folk and traditional styles with a focus on musical appreciation and understands how to teach music as a tool for creative expression, with theory developed naturally and indirectly through exposure to group song. 

Hours

30–45 minutes for each class (total of 5) on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting at 9:15 am

Time Frame: 2026–27 School Year

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to provide engaging, authentic, and meaningful Elementary choir and general music lesson plans and instruction.
  • Experience managing groups of students in a classroom settin,g and a demonstrated ability to use compassionate classroom management techniques
  • Collaborative and inclusive working style
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to serving and furthering the educational philosophy of Prairie School of DuPage
  • Ability to work with main office, grades coordinator, and orchestra teacher to organize and create performances for the school's winter and spring concerts
  • Background in and/or understanding of progressive educational philosophy a plus
  • A background in Kindermusik, or similar, is a plus

Compensation Information

Part-time hourly -  up to $40/hr, depending on experience
