Full Time Naturalist position with the Carroll County Conservation Board. Work out of the Swan Lake Conservation Education Center and help grow our environmental education team. Enjoy classrooms and outdoors space for hosting programs, established resources and materials for developing programs and a county with endless opportunities to grow within this established environmental education program.

Summary

The Carroll County Conservation Board is accepting applications for a full time Naturalist. Work will be based out of the Conservation Education Center at Swan Lake and you will be able to put your talents to work on our well established environmental education program. Help grow our environmental education team in a county full of opportunities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, develop, and present environmental education programs for schools, youth and adult groups and the general public.  
  • Assist in preparation of newsletters, reports and press releases
  • Communicate effectively with staff and general public
  • Develop marketing and informational materials for programs
  • Maintain Education Center displays and live animal exhibits
  • Assist with supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers 
  • Stays current on Environmental Education programming trends through workshops, training and conferences.
  • Maintain Environmental Education materials and supplies

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of ecology, nature ID, conservation principles and practices, outdoor skills and the environment
  • Develop curricula using an understanding of teaching methods and learning styles
  • Ability to relate and speak effectively to all age groups and target audiences
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with general public and staff
  • Basic knowledge of social media platforms
  • Knowledge of computers and computer programs useful in Environmental Education practices 
  • Ability to demonstrate basic outdoor skills such as camping, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, archery, etc.
  • Enthusiasm, creativity, initiative, flexibility and a willingness to grow professionally and stay current on EE practices
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment under all types of weather

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree with major coursework in environmental education, ecology, natural resources, biology or related field of study
  • Other Requirements:
  • Valid Driver's license and insurable under the County Insurance
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification or ability to obtain
