Kids Club at the Retreat Farm Program Director
The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro is hiring an experienced Program Director who will lead our partnership with the Retreat Farm to run our licensed aftercare program for K-5th Graders at the Retreat Farm’s Children’s Farm and Forest facility. The Program Director oversees and is responsible for the development and implementation of all aspects of the program—curriculum, staffing, kid care and stewardship.

Kids Club at the Retreat Farm Program Director 

The Boys & Girls Club of Brattleboro is hiring an experienced Program Director who will lead our  partnership with the Retreat Farm to run our licensed aftercare program for K-5th Graders at the Retreat Farm’s Children’s Farm and Forest facility. The Program Director oversees and is responsible for the development and implementation of all aspects of the program—curriculum, staffing, care of the children and creating a healthy and eco-friendly environment for our youth programming, focusing on nature and the outdoors and minimizing screen use. This person is an organizational and administrative guru, while being a creative hands-on leader. Think: an eco-Mary Poppins meets John Muir. The Program Director works closely with the Executive Director, Operations Director, and Membership Coordinator to deliver our licensed aftercare program at the Retreat Farm site. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Collaborate with the team to build and grow this program. 
  • Maintain accurate records including attendance, incidents, and parent contact.
  • Create a welcoming environment for parents and children.
  • Act as primary liaison with Retreat Farm staff ensuring the partnership runs smoothly. Reports to the Executive Director of any issues.
  • Ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment, and supplies are maintained.
  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate aftercare program and compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.
  • Manage program budget and assist in the development of annual budget. Control expenditures against the budget.
  • Plan and implement monthly staff schedules and coordinated coverage as necessary.
  • Work with staff on special events and marketing efforts. 
  • Exercise sound judgment when working with children, staff, and parents.

This position maintains close, daily contact with Club professional staff to interpret and embody organizational mission, program objectives, and standards.

Preferred skills, qualifications, attributes: 

  • College degree required, masters degree in related field preferred.  
  • Demonstrated passion for working with children in nature. 
  • Proficient in multiple platforms: GSuite, Constant Contact, social media, etc.
  • Nimble, professional team-player. 
  • Background in education, outdoor education or related field.
  • A minimum of five years’ work experience in a Boys & Girls Club, school,  or similar organization planning and supervising activities based on the developmental needs of young people, or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision and the recruitment and retention of personnel. 
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 
  • Ability to recruit, train, supervise and motivate staff. 
  • Ability to deal effectively with children and problem-solve with parents. 
  • Working knowledge of budget preparation, control and management. 

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Ability to participate in physical activities with youth.
  • Able to stand or sit for periods of time 
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
