The Oyster Shell Recycling Program Specialist is a full-time position responsible for the implementation of the Oyster Shell Recycling Program which includes the operation of Tampa Bay Watch vehicles and trailers to facilitate the transfer of recycled shell from participating restaurants to designated curing locations.

Position Summary:

The Oyster Shell Recycling Program Specialist is a full-time position responsible for the implementation of the Oyster Shell Recycling Program which includes the operation of Tampa Bay Watch vehicles and trailers to facilitate the transfer of recycled shell from participating restaurants to designated curing locations. The OSRP Specialist will also be responsible for the expansion of the OSRP with the addition of new partners via outreach and innovation.  Additionally, the position will also be responsible for implementation and expansion of the Vertical Oyster Garden Program.

Funding Notice:

This is a specially funded position, dependent upon Federal, State, Foundation or other non-TBW operating funds, and is not funded pursuant to the regular budget. Continued employment is always contingent upon satisfactory performance and organizational needs. Grant funded positions are also contingent upon continued funding. This appointment is only assured for one year. Employment beyond the expiration date of the grant is subject to continued funding and need, as identified by Tampa Bay Watch.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and implement all aspects of the Oyster Shell Recycling and Vertical Oyster Garden programs.
  • Pick up and deliver recycled shell bins and buckets from participating facilities using Tampa Bay Watch vehicles and trailers.
  • Continually evaluate and implement changes to the program to increase efficiency and programmatic expansion.
  • Coordinate and communicate with a wide variety of audiences including regulatory agencies, students, community members, project partners and funders.
  • Seek and apply for grant opportunities to support the Oyster Shell Recycling and Vertical Oyster Garden program efforts.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Restoration Team to evaluate our Oyster Shell Recycling Program and Vertical Oyster Garden Program efforts and ways in which we can expand and grow opportunities.

Knowledge, Education and Skills Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Marine Biology, or a related field preferably with familiarity in Florida coastal ecosystems
  • Experience operating vehicles and trailers over 18 feet in length
  • Ability to work year-round in Florida’s climate and lift up to 50-100 lbs.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication to be used to communicate the OSPR program message to community members, students, partners and funders
  • Excellent public speaking and audience management skills
  • Highly motivated and detail oriented, exhibiting initiative and creativity to help grow and diversify the Oyster Shell Recycling and Vertical Oyster Garden programs into the future.

Salary: Based upon experience.
