Summary

The School Age Programs Coordinator at the University of Washington in Seattle will play a crucial role in the growth, expansion, transformation, and diversification of educational offerings that seek to more equitably meet the needs and interests of the ever-changing communities of Washington state. This position will continue to grow and develop our programming for school-age children and their families. This includes a school field trip program, a 10-week summer day camp, a variety of seasonally themed family and outreach programs, virtual programs, and a new and growing project to bring our programs to students at their schools.

We serve over 7,000 young people each year and more than 100 local elementary schools. This position will be dedicated to all aspects of the continued operation of these programs including teaching and program delivery, curriculum development, communication with customers and the general public, training and oversight of seasonal hourly staff, marketing and recruitment, and program evaluation and assessment. During the school year, primary responsibilities will focus on coordination of our school programs, working with teachers, students, and hourly staff/volunteers to deliver hands-on field experiences. During summer months, this position will coordinate the day-to-day operations of our summer day camp, utilizing the Washington Park Arboretum and surrounding resources to create fun and dynamic educational experiences for campers. This includes serving as the primary person responsible for coordination and support of 10+ summer staff, high school volunteers and up to 100 campers ages 4-14 each week.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Training and supervision: Train, oversee, support, and schedule 10-15 hourly and seasonal staff as well as additional student interns and volunteers to ensure high quality program delivery.
• Curriculum development & delivery: Develop and lead age-appropriate, culturally responsive environmental education curriculum, lessons, activities, and materials for school-aged children and families. Ensure programs are designed and implemented in an equitable and inclusive manner.
• Communication: Communicate with teachers, schools, and guardians about program logistics, goals and expectations. Communicate with fellow staff, volunteers, student interns, and program participants to achieve common goals and avoid potential conflicts.
• Program development: Develop new programs for a school-age and family audience or restructure existing programs to meet the changing needs of our diverse community. Build or maintain relationships with community partners to ensure programs are designed and implemented in a successful manner.
• Evaluation, assessment and record keeping: Maintain program records and conduct assessments to determine successful achievement of program goals, and modify and adapt programs as necessary.
• Marketing and recruitment: Market and recruit to reach a broad and diverse audience and to ensure program enrollment is meeting annual goals.
• Prepare, clean up, and maintain teaching and programmatic supplies and supporting materials in a well-organized manner.
• Ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of program participants through site surveys and daily check-ins with participants.
• Other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Education, Botany, horticulture, Biology, or related area and 3 years of experience (or Master's degree and 1 year experience) leading education programs for diverse audiences including school aged children and families.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
