Camp Counselor Opportunity

We are seeking outdoor educators who are responsible, outgoing and fun.  Applicants must love working with children and care about their development. Applicants are flexible team players, have excellent judgment, problem-solving skills, are outdoor enthusiasts and love sharing this joy with children.

We offer a low adult:child ratio for a quality experience in nature and as a group. Weekly staff meetings and a supportive environment aim to create a cohesive and harmonious staff team where everyone can learn and grow.

Camp activities are experiential in nature and include hiking, games, team building activities, nature awareness games, arts and crafts, and imaginative play.  We also offer backpacking, mountain biking, kayaking, primitive & wilderness skills and encourage applicants with expertise in these areas.

The ideal candidate meets the following criteria:

●      Experienced outdoors person with knowledge of mountain hazards and preparedness, or willingness to learn

●      College graduate or student (coursework in recreation, natural science and/or education an asset)

●      Experience with and love of working with children, high energy level, excellent group management skills

●      Strong communication and organization skills

●      Team player – able to implement camp curriculum with other leaders

●      Excellent problem solving skills, flexibility, and willingness to take initiative

●      Excellent driving record, able to drive a 15-passenger van (25 and older)

●      Excellent judgment and concern for safety of children

●      Counselors must have their own housing, transportation to and from camp ● 18 years of age or older

Dates of Employment: May 23-August 15, 2022

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm (40 hours/week)

Staff Training– May 23-27, 2022. Includes two-day training with wilderness skills expert, Jessie Krebs of the SERE Institute and OWLSS (Outdoorsy Women Learning Survival Skills)

Minimum Qualifications to meet upon acceptance:

●      Wilderness First Aid/CPR Training, WFR for Backpacking Guides

●      Excellent driving record (25+, drivers only)

●      Background check

●      Fully Vaccinated

Compensation and Benefits: $18/hour, ($144 Day Rate)
