Summary
Heartwood Nature Programs offers year-round classes and camps at Saint Edward State Park, just northeast of Seattle in Kenmore, WA. For Summer 2022 Heartwood offers 6 weeks of 100% outside day camp. We are looking for candidates who love being in nature and are energized working with children. Summer Camp Directors run the show and oversee 3-4 camp counselors and 30+ campers. Each day our camp includes themed activities, yoga, mindfulness, crafts, field games, and hiking.
Responsibilities:
- Be punctual and communicative
- Manage camp counselors and campers, ensuring everyone is being safe and having fun
- Bring a positive attitude to camp each day
- Respectfully engage with campers’ parents at arrival and departure, gathering necessary information from parents and relaying experiences of the day
- Work respectfully and cooperatively with camp staff and help out whenever and wherever needed
- Lead pre-planned themed activities, field games, crafts, and lesson plans
- Engage children in exploring and playing in nature
- Supervise children while playing in and out of water
- Participate in all camp activities
- Attend required staff training and meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Previous experience as an educator, instructor, camp counselor, management, or similar
- Detailed oriented
- Positive attitude and a sense of humor. Enjoys being around interacting with adults and children.
- Enthusiastic, reliable, creative, and flexible.
- Comfortable speaking to and leading groups of up to 30 staff and campers
- All qualified applicants must pass a criminal background check
- First Aid, CPR & AED certification, or willingness to obtain
- Prior experience working with children
- Love of nature
- Enjoys working and being outside in all types of weather
- Strong team player
- Exceptional verbal communicator
- Ability to communicate effectively with participants, parents, and staff
- Possess good risk assessment
- Committed to keeping participants safe
- Ability to stand on feet for up to 4 hours and hike on uneven terrain
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Compensation and Benefits:
- This is a temporary summer position, with the option to apply for school-year positions
- Pay starts at $23/hour
Work Dates/Times: Must be available for all 6 weeks of camp
Week 1: 6/27/22-7/1/22
Week 2: 7/5/22-7/8/22 *no camp 7/4
Week 3: 7/11/22-7/15/22
Week 4: 7/18/22-7/22/22
Week 5: 7/25/22-7/29/22
Week 6: 8/1/22-8/5/22
Hours:
Depend upon camp assigned, work hours will be either:
8:00am - 4pm
8:15am - 1:15pm
8:45am - 3:15pm
Training/Meeting: Required - June 20, 21, 22, and 23
