Louisville Nature Center provides environmental education to people from all over the city and encourages stewardship via restoration of our urban forest. We are supported by a kind community of dedicated staff, volunteers, Board of Directors, and members. Our grounds include about 80 acres of forest, 2 miles of trails, a Nature Play Area, a bird viewing area, a large garden, and an education center with live reptiles and amphibians. Summer Camp Educator

The Position: Summer camp educators supervise children, carry out daily activities, ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children, maintain daily communication with parents, and work well with their team to provide a high quality summer camp experience!  BIPOC strongly encouraged to apply. 

  • Monday - Friday (approx. 40 hours/week), $14/hr
  • Program dates: June 6- August 5, 2022
  • Program hours: 8:30-4:30/5:00
  • Training: Days/Hours TBA, but will be held the week of May 30-June 3.

Requirements:

  • A love of children is the highest priority! We work with a very diverse audience, including young children and people with disabilities. Prior experience working with Pre-K to 5th grade students preferred. 
  • A love of the outdoors is the next highest priority. Natural history knowledge and enthusiasm for conservation is very helpful.
  • Team player who approaches the job with a growth mind-set. 
  • First Aid and CPR certification, or the ability to obtain it upon employment.
  • Willingness to work outside in a variety of weather conditions and be on your feet the majority of the day. 
  • Available to attend camp training May 30-June 3, and to work all 9 weeks of Summer Camp; Monday - Friday, June 6 - August 5, 2022. 
  • Covid-19 Vaccination required. 
  • Provide your own gear for working outdoors.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safety and physical well-being of the children. 
  • Maintain daily, open communication with co-workers, the program manager and parents.  
  • Complete necessary paperwork for medical and behavioral incidents.
  • Communicate child concerns and needs with the program manager.
  • Organize and ensure that all program materials are prepared in advance of the program.
  • Coordinate and participate in set up and take down of camp – checking to ensure all areas (outdoor classroom, bathrooms, library, lobby and grounds) are clean and materials are properly stored at the end of the day.
