Yosemite Child Care (non-profit daycare) is hiring a teacher with infant experience to support programming for all ages in Yosemite. YNPCCC serves families living and working in and around Yosemite, providing care for ages 4 months to 12 years.

Wage Range: $14.25- $16.50 DOE
Duty: El Portal or Yosemite Valley 
Employer Paid Benefits: Annual Sick & Vacation Leave

Position Summary

The teacher position is responsible for the care, enrichment and learning in the classrooms, playground, and outdoors and general supervision of the children of the organization. They are responsible for maintaining and encouraging a caring and loving environment and ongoing safety of the children. In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, teachers will help facilitate and implement age appropriate activities that promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of each child.

  • Team player who is highly flexible and has great communication skills
  • Ability to implement good group management techniques while being kind and patient
  • Proficient in writing, listening and oral communication skills 
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain confidentiality, exercise wisdom, reason and patience, and make independent decisions within the scope of the position. 
  • Ability to maintain a professional, friendly, and patient demeanor with staff, children and parents. 
  • Ability to be empathetic and responsive to the concerns and needs of parents, guardians, children and staff within the scope of YNPCCC’s mission, policies, procedures, capabilities and Title 22 Health and Safety Regulations. 

Ideal Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with, teaching, playing with, and supervising young children and infants
  • Ability to lead activities such as games, crafts, and songs with minimal support
  • College level coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or Infant Care

Responsibilities:  

  • Support the Lead Teacher and Teachers in all of their duties
  • Support the implementation of daily lessons including arts & crafts, movement, circle time, outdoor exploration, music, and structured play- as designated by the lead teacher
  • Maintain cleaning and organization of the center by following cleaning schedules and completing designated tasks
  • Facilitate smooth functioning of daily routines including arrival, activities, meals, naps, pick up, child hygiene, and staff scheduling
  • Sing songs, read stories, play games, supervise play, and practice classroom management
  • Take children outside every day in all weather conditions
  • Assist in implementing nature based education including introducing children to the components and functions of ecosystems and helping to promote nature exploration and instill a lifelong love of the outdoors 
  • Provide constant communication to fellow staff members as the status of children in the facility. 
  • Assist in providing daily communication to parents/guardians verbally as well as Daily Reports. 
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and trainings
  • Other duties as assigned 

The Teacher will:

  • Hold a certificate of completion of California Child Abuse Mandated Reporter Training, a current CPR and First Aid card, and pass background check as per Title 22 within 30 days of starting employment 
  • Adhere to all YNPCCC General Policies and Procedures, Personnel Handbook, Parent Handbook and Health and Safety Requirements as stated in Title 22 
  • Encourage teamwork, and promote consistency among children, including the full scope of learning activities, snack and lunch protocol and playtime. Help to provide balanced early learning environment that utilize auditory, visual, tactile, and oral approaches; including but not limited to: art, language, math, eye-hand activities, music and movement, science, and role-play. 
  • Lead children in modeling the best behavior and kindness to others while interacting with each other in a fun, learning environment.  

Working Conditions: 

  • This position includes caring for and teaching children from the ages of four months through twelve years of age.
  • This position requires the ability to lift children up to about 40 lbs. and lift them to at least waist with ease and push and/or pull up to 50 lbs.  
  • The duties of this position include lifting, feeding, diapering, changing children’s clothing, facility cleaning and laundry, and activities that include art and other messy projects, pushing a quad stroller and other tasks to meet the needs of the children. 
  • Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there are additional procedures in place to protect staff and families..
  • This position may require teachers to be on their feet for 8+ hours per day
  • This position requires employees to frequently sit, stand, bend, walk,  and lift
  • Work will be done indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
