MobilizeGreen is seeking a conservation-minded 32-week Assistant Planner Resource Assistant Intern who will work with staff from the Intermountain Region in two primary areas: climate program and forest plan revision. Examples of support for the climate program include assisting with the hosting of a weeklong meeting of climate coordinators from across the region in early summer 2023, including preparation of materials, meeting summary and other reports.

Summary

MobilizeGreen is seeking a conservation-minded 32-week Assistant Planner Resource Assistant Intern who will work with staff from the Intermountain Region in two primary areas: climate program and forest plan revision. Examples of support for the climate program include assisting with the hosting of a weeklong meeting of climate coordinators from across the region in early summer 2023, including preparation of materials, meeting summary and other reports. Examples of support for forest planning includes developing public communications materials, assisting with public meetings, and targeted research and writing assignments.

The Resource Assistant's Program is designed for emerging professionals to launch their natural and cultural resources careers. The RA will receive hands-on learning experience, mentorship, and coaching to complete mission-critical work while developing leadership, critical thinking, and strategic communication skills.

Location:  100% Virtual Internship (see below)

Term: 32 weeks starting February 6, 2023. Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Host Unit: Region 4, Planning, Appeals, Objections and Litigation, 324 25th Street Ogden Utah 84401

Duty Location: This position is 100% Virtual.  Travel may be required.

Duties and Responsibilities    

  • Learn about the Forest Service's Climate Action Tracking initiative and assist the region with collecting relevant information and reporting to the national program.
  • Help convene an annual meeting of climate coordinators from across the region at a forest location.
  • Participate in field visits as part of the training; prepare meeting materials, provide logistic support, summarize outcomes and help develop final report.
  • Support land management planning in region 4 through targeted writing and editing tasks, development of text and graphics for regional SharePoint site and supporting internal communication related to planning projects.
  • Provide support to forest-based teams with hosting and managing public meetings related to forest planning.  This can include support with meeting logistics, responding to public requests for information, attending public meetings and assisting with meeting summaries.
  • Assist the regional planner with review of forest plan-related documents, including coordinating with staff specialists in the regional office. 

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Natural Resource Management, Outdoor Recreation, Communications, Community Planning and Environmental Sciences (within 0-5 years).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and confident in their ability to communicate with a diverse communities. 
  • Skilled with use of Word, Excel, PowerPoint Strong organizational skills
  • Interest in environmental policy and natural resource management
  • Research and writing experience. 
  • Advanced communication skills, both orally and in writing.
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
