THE PROGRAM AREA: A faculty appointment in Education will including teaching responsibilities across education programs including the post-baccalaureate K-8 Teacher Certification program, the BA in Community and Place Based Education, and the Masters of Science in Outdoor and Environmental Education. These programs are part of APU’s Institute for Culture and Environment. Other programs in the Institute include Outdoor Studies, Liberal Studies, and Marine and Environmental Science.
DUTIES OF THE POSITION: The contract carries a 9-month teaching load of 24 credit hours per year (typically, 3 courses per semester with the possibility of release for administrative duties or grant funded projects as appropriate and approved). This position will also include student advising duties. Course assignments are based upon expertise and needs of the degree programs. All faculty are encouraged to develop scholarship or creative work in their chosen field, and faculty are expected to participate in outcomes assessment, curriculum development, student activities, as well as other service to the university and broader community.
RANK AND SALARY: Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and experience, and is prescribed by a university-wide salary range. APU is a non-tenure college; faculty are eligible for multi-year appointments after initial contracts.
DATE OF APPOINTMENT: Fall 2022 (one year appointment with renewal up to three years).
QUALIFICATIONS: Successful candidates will have earned a graduate degree (terminal degree preferred) in Education or closely related field at time of appointment. Experience working with Indigenous communities is strongly preferred. Additional preferred qualifications include:
-Teaching experience
-Current teaching certification
-Experience teaching university courses including the development of new courses
-Experience mentoring or coaching educators
