The Communications Coordinator will work closely with the WCEE programs (Wisconsin’s K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) and Forestry Education Program (LEAF)) to promote and share their stories.

Summary

The Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE) Communications Coordinator will work closely with the WCEE programs (Wisconsin’s K-12 Energy Education Program (KEEP) and Forestry Education Program (LEAF)) to promote and share their stories. This position reports to the WCEE Director. The position will also work closely with the programs in making decisions and developing strategies for communications efforts and providing leadership and resources to execute a communications strategy in support of the WCEE communications goals.

Primary Responsibilities:

Continuous development and implementation of the WCEE Strategic Communications Plan, including Social & Digital Media, website, annual reports, newsletters, print advertising, media kits and educational materials:
• Develop and update a communications plan for the WCEE every two years.
• Lead and coordinate efforts when new communications platforms, channels, and software are needed to expand or support effective communications.
• Work with program staff to post relevant information on social media sites for each program.
• Maintain a communications calendar including social media and newsletter calendars that are internally accessible and shared.
• Develop, create, and monitor social media content for the WCEE programs.
• Maintain and update website content for WCEE program websites.
• Assist with the creation of annual reports to program funders.
• Lead and coordinate monthly newsletters for WCEE programs KEEP and LEAF
• Schedule, Design, layout, edit, graphics, share w/funders
• Coordinate other promotional emails.
• Create print and/or digital promotional materials for workshops, conferences, and other events.
• Ensure all digital and print materials and content follow UW-Stevens Point Communication Standards.
• Maintain and manage email distribution/contact lists for WCEE stakeholder groups.
• Maintain development of WCEE’s content library to include photo, video, graphics and/or other content.
• Hire and manage students as it relates to this position.

Track, analyze and report data analytics detailing the performance of Communications, Social Media, or other campaigns or initiatives:
• Track and report performance of WCEE social media page, newsletters, and other promotional campaigns
• Provide communication analytics for WCEE program annual reports.
• Coordinate with the WCEE staff to track workshop registrations and work to increase registrations with appropriate promotions

Assist with other responsibilities in support of the Wisconsin Center for Environmental Education (WCEE), College of Natural Resources, and UW-Stevens Point, including:
• Promote and represent a positive image for WCEE by attending and participating in conferences and community events, as needed.
• Participate in search and screens for new staff hires as needed
• Travel to schools and communities within Wisconsin and the ability to work as needed, including some overnights, evenings and weekends.
• Complete required trainings as needed
• Participate in CNR meetings and events as needed
• Participate in personal professional development
• Complete annual review paperwork

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• 1 year of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, branding, or related career
• Familiarity with a variety of communications tools, such as email marketing, websites, social media, and print pieces such as Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop, InDesign, content management systems, such as WordPress, and email marketing systems such as Constant Contact.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
• Ability to work on multiple projects with diverse staff and stakeholders and able to meet deadlines under pressure.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Bachelor’s degree
• Three to five years of experience in communications, journalism, marketing, branding, or related career.
• Ability to work independently in addition to working as part of a team.
• Some experience in filming, editing, and sharing visual media (photos and video).
• Proficiency in graphic design for print and digital media.
• Experience with environmental education and K-12 education.
