In partnership with the US Forest Service, MobilizeGreen is seeking a Project/Logistics Manager for its residential Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program in Lander, WY during the spring/summer of 2022. The MobilizeGreen Forest Service YCC program is a residential program for a group of 20 high school students. Housed in a dormitory setting, and working in the field, crew members and leaders will build a community while living and working together as a team.

The crew will be working on conservation projects in the Shoshone National Forest during the day and participating in environmental education, professional development, and outdoor recreation activities during the evenings and weekends. The goal of the program is to create environmental stewards and future leaders through community engagement, physical work projects, and teamwork. Eight Crew Leaders will manage student and group safety, personal development, camp life, environmental education, and trail projects. The Project/Logistic Manager will support the Crew Leaders and work with the crew members to ensure that meals, programming and travel logistics run smoothly. The Project/Logistics Manger also represents MobilizeGreen on-site and coordinates logistics with the Forest Service partners throughout the project. 

Position Abstract: This is a hybrid position, with 15 weeks being remote work from home, and the other 10 weeks being on-site (with a week break over July 4th). The Project/Logistics Manager is responsible for coordinating and implementing the logistical components of this program, including but not limited to coordinating planning and food purchasing, shopping for supplies as needed, arranging the set-up and transportation of equipment, communicating with MobilizeGreen and Forest Staff and more. In addition, the Project Manager will serve as an alternate crew leader and supervise crew members at times.

Term: 25 weeks, includes pre/post programming

February: Onboarding
March-May: Preparation for start of program
June 12th- 17th: Crew Leader Training on site
June 19th- August 6th: YCC Program (2 separate cohorts for 3 weeks at a time)
August 8th- 13th : Program wrap-up

Location: Lander, Wyoming

Most of the projects being completed will be within the Shoshone National Forest

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Shop for supplies for crew and leaders
  • Coordinate meals and cooking as needed
  • Coordinate arrival of camping supplies and equipment, as well as the set-up and transportation of the equipment at new campsites
  • Work with both MobilizeGreen staff and Forest Service partners to ensure the needs of the crew and partners are met
  • Along with Crew Leaders, manage administrative aspects of the crew including but not limited to required pre- and post-program paperwork, daily work logs, incident reports, equipment inventories, evaluations and final report. 
  • Communicate with full-time MobilizeGreen and USFS staff as required and as needed to report incidents & near misses, and program evaluations.
  • Serve as a crew leader, supervising crew members 2 days per week. 
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements During Term of Service:

  • Uphold and act in accordance with MobilizeGreen’s Field Operations Standards
  • Communicate effectively with MobilizeGreen staff, parents, agency partners, and coleaders during program
  • Participate fully in Crew Leader Orientation and any safety training.
  • Maintain positive relationships with agency partners.
  • Provide an emotionally and physically safe environment for members.
  • Maintain a positive, professional relationship with other Crew Leaders.
  • Complete all necessary weekly and post-program paperwork, including an end of program debrief with MobilizeGreen Staff.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 by May 1st, 2022.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with no major violations w/in past 3 years.
  • Must pass a criminal background check. 
  • Must be comfortable driving a minivan in a rural environment. 
  • Current First Aid/CPR Certification, or ability to obtain by start date. WRF/WFA preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

This is physically demanding work. The work conditions are challenging and require the ability to handle strenuous work conditions, such as steep terrain, as well as environmental conditions, including rain and extreme heat. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Crew Leaders will be expected to stand, walk, and carry gear for up to 8 hours per day while keeping morale up among members.

This position, as well as Crew Leaders, is required to show proof of vaccination for COVID-19. All Crew members, leaders and FS staff working with the crew will be required to adhere to all U.S. Forest Service and MobilizeGreen COVID related protocols.
