Summary
The Waterman Conservation Education Center (WCEC), a progressive, ecology-focused nonprofit organization based in Apalachin, New York, seeks to hire a Youth Programs Director. The educator appointed to serve in this role will create, administer, and lead an inaugural Forest School hosted at WCEC, with the possibility of other roles in youth programming leadership to occur in the future (summer day camps, homeschool sessions). The selected candidate should ideally hold a Master’s degree in a relevant field, substantial field experience, and evidence of demonstrated skills in fundraising, program design, and program management, working directly with children. Compensation is competitive. Start date: September-October 2022.
Interested applicants are invited to review the WCEC website for more information about our values, mission, and goals. We strongly encourage women, members of marginalized populations, and veterans to apply.

- Be responsible for developing and implementing relevant curricula that align with the mission, values, and teachings of the Waterman Conservation Education Center
- Be responsible for planning and facilitating immersive outdoor experiences—particularly for children, youth, and young adults
- Evaluate programs with measurable outcomes (qualitative and quantitative) in order to strive for continuous improvement
- Manage materials and equipment; inventory, request, and order new materials as needed
- Demonstrate and maintain friendly and professional communication skills with children, families, staff, and volunteers
- Maintain updated, confidential records of emergency contact details for all program participants
- Maintain updated consent documentation and any relevant permission forms
- Establish, monitor, and record students’ achievement goals and objectives
- Ensure the health and safety of all participants, including completing and evaluating risk assessments for all relevant sites, applicable materials and tools, and assigned activities
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director or their designated representative
