Garden/Outdoor Learning Educator

The Garden/Outdoor Learning Educator will provide hands-on, food and garden-based learning experiences to K-6 students through Unified Arts classes; will maintain, expand, and coordinate the use of garden and outdoor classroom spaces; will support and lead efforts to market and serve local foods and recipes in the cafeteria; and will provide opportunities for the school community to engage in Farm to School work during and after school.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Other duties may be assigned.

• Develops lesson plans and instructional material and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
• Communicates regularly with parents by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
• Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans working with the assistance of district specialists as appropriate.
• Is available to students and parents for education-related purposes.
• Plans and coordinates the work of ed. techs. and volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
• Creates an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays interest centers and exhibits of student's work.
• Assesses and evaluates the accomplishments of students’ academic and social growth and keeps appropriate records and provides progress reports as requested.
