Summary
The Animal Park at the Conservators Center is looking for an Education & Volunteer Program Manager.
Responsibilities focus on oversight of our tour guide program, public visitation and education, and the volunteers who are critical to our success. The person in this position will provide animal ambassador and conservation education information on guided tours and field trips, and will develop and implement new educational programs. The selected candidate also will oversee the recruiting, training, and supervising of volunteers. This role requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple workstreams concurrently. Candidates should have a college degree or some coursework relevant to conservation education. Hands-on experience with providing educational programs and supervising volunteers is desirable. EE Cerification is highly desirable. This position requires weekend hours and some holidays. Transitional shared housing may be provided to support relocation. SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
- Exceptional telephone and email etiquette
- Strong critical and organizational thinking, time management, and decision-making skills
- A proactive mindset with attention to detail, creative problem-solving
- Ability to speak to groups of people of all ages and backgrounds, sometimes in large group settings
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
- Excellent communication (written and oral), conflict resolution, and de-escalation skills
- Ability to learn new computer programs/apps quickly
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- College degree, associates degree, or at least two years of relevant experience working with volunteers
- Background knowledge of environmental education or biological or animal sciences sufficient to support educational program development and delivery
- Work experience in facilitating educational programs is preferred
- Handling/husbandry experience working with animals is strongly preferred
LICENSING, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION:
- First Aid/CPR, or completed within six months of hire; offered on site
- Valid driver’s license
- EE Cerification, or significant progress toward it, preferred
