Summary
The Northside Education Facilitator position is staffed through a temporary staffing agency and reports to the Northside Education Coordinator. The Northside Education Facilitator is responsible for assisting with the planning and coordinating all Education activities and volunteers for the Aquarium, Botanic Garden, Heritage Farm, BUGarium and Tingley Beach under the supervision of the Northside Education Coordinator.
Education Requirements and Qualifications:
The recommended education and experience requirements are three to five-years’ experience in teaching formal or informal education, preferably in the sciences. Formal education may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis, including a degree with major coursework in science, education, or a related field, plus one year of experience in informal educational programming. Experience working in garden and/or aquarium education is a plus. Individuals selected for the position must pass a background check.
Tasks the Northside Education Program Facilitator performs includes:
- Creating and presenting informal education programming across the Northside to include general tours, talks, feeding narrations, etc.
- Work with Volunteer Coordinator to oversee arthropod and touchpool educator volunteers, work alongside or in their place when needed
- Providing support for programming of Discovery Days, evening tours, and miscellaneous Education programming at the Northside, includes weekends and evenings
- Assisting with volunteer training program including Aquarium and Botanic Garden Docent, arthropod handling and touchpool
- Assisting with Camp BioPark programs at the Northside
- Assisting with educational community partner shows in the Northside
- Work as part of the Education Team on BioPark wide programming, events and planning
- Working as part of a team to manage all BioPark volunteers
- Performing general BioPark administrative tasks
- Other duties as assigned by Northside Education Coordinator and Education Curator
Work schedule: Tuesday-Saturday, 8a.m.-5p.m., with one-hour lunch, Mondays and evenings as assigned. Summer hours may change due to Camp BioPark. Hours in one week may not exceed 40 hours, and it is the responsibility of the Northside Education Program Facilitator to track those hours in conjunction with the Northside Education Coordinator.
Pay rate: $15.96/hour. This position is hired through a temporary staffing agency, not the City of Albuquerque, and has a mandatory 90-day furlough every 2-years.
