NNS Job Descriptions
Assistant Facilitator
Assists Facilitators in day to day operations of the program. Must be flexible, open to suggestion and intuitive in handling interactions with colleagues, children and families. Assistant Facilitators enable program success by handling details and picking up where Facilitators leave off, filling the gap, and bringing activities to conclusion.
Facilitator
In addition to the criteria for Assistants, Facilitators bring content to the program, providing activities and supplies as well as supervision. Facilitators carry out the day to day operations of the program, must be flexible, open to suggestion and intuitive in handling interactions of all kinds. Often children take an intended activity and bring it in a different direction, and Facilitators support this child-led exploration, by following rather than leading.
Lead Facilitator
In addition to the criteria for Facilitators, the Lead Facilitator supports the program by providing core content and development of the program. The Lead Facilitator is the model for other staff members, offering guidance and support to team members in problem solving and brainstorming. The Lead Facilitator supports the Administrator by shouldering some of the Administrative duties, and shares the duty of being the public face of Neptune.
Responsibilities and Duties:
All members of the Neptune team possess or are inclined to learn/acquire:
- Stepping Back, then Stepping In. At Neptune Nature School, we follow the time honored forest school process of interest-led flow of learning: the skill of "stepping back."
- Supporting the schedule. Neptune Nature School is in its 6th year, and is still developing its identity and culture. Some practices are used in order to provide a predictable flow for our little ones.
- Supporting child-led activities. 90% of our day is spent in extensive, deeply engaged social play between the children in the program.
- Supporting children’s emergent ability to regulate their emotions, emergent ability to regulate their hunger, diapering and toileting, and sunscreen and clothing choices.
- Photo documentation, semi-weekly newsletter, and annual portfolio development.
- Current 1st Aid/CPR certification.
- Pass a background check or provide proof of such within the Guardian/Trustline registry.
- Be able to physically keep up with children, occasionally needing to lift or assist them.
- Core ECE/ECD classes encouraged, higher levels of education appreciated.
Neptune Nature School provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
