TITLE: Park and Rec Aide 2 -Trail Crew Member (4 Positions)
PAY RATE: $15.50/hour, 40 Hours/Week
LOCATION:Saratoga/Capitol Region, Saratoga Springs, New York
WORK SCHEDULE: Mon-Fri, 8:00am-4:30pm from 6/2/22-11/2/22
OVERVIEW OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the regional trails manager and the supervision of the regional trails technician, the trail crew member will assist with all field operations for trail projects. Tasks include but aren’t limited to:
- Perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks throughout the region in both a backcountry & front country setting. Projects include new trail construction, tread and drainage improvements, stone staircases and retaining walls, bog bridge and boardwalk construction, hazard tree removal, signage installation and general facilities maintenance
- Performing a variety of hands-on skilled work (carpentry, masonry, erosion mitigation, and trail stabilization)
- Operating, maintaining, and storing hand tools, power tools and small equipment
- Maintaining state vehicle records Daily and cleaning the vehicle interior for operations Weekly
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be at least 18 years old with working papers
- Must be available for all trainings as required
- Must be able to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time outside and lift 50 lbs.
- Must demonstrate safe workplace practices
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience working in the outdoors, working on a trail crew, and using hand tools such; shovels, pick mattocks, rock bars, rouge hoes, iron rakes, loppers, hand pruners, hand tampers, post hole digger, MA clouds, timber carrier, cordless drills and carpentry saws
- Experience using rigging equipment; grip hoists, mainlines, slings, rock carry nets and screw pin shackles
- Experience with sustainable trail practices
- Experience with sharpening, fixing and cleaning tools/gear/equipment
PROVIDED:
- State vehicle assigned to the trail crew stationed at regional headquarters
- PPE(hardhat, eye protection, ear protection, work gloves) & Cosmetics(bug spray, sunscreen, hand sanitizer)
- State certified CPR/first aid course
- State certified UTV operators/safety training
- State certified trail rigging operators/safety training
