WORK STATION: Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, Jackson, MS
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The educator in this position is responsible for and participates in the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science Education Programs.
- Develop & present hands-on educational programs to school groups at museum.
- Perform animal husbandry and training with a variety of species including reptiles, birds, and mammals.
- Lead Summer Camps.
- Lead Birthday Parties at MMNS with a live animal program.
- Conduct teacher training workshops. Examples: Project WILD, Project WET
- Write, edit, and/or coordinate production of necessary materials such as educational materials, brochures, and magazine articles.
- Communicate/give presentations at professional fish and wildlife and educational meetings and conferences on the status and success of the program.
- Serve on Museum-wide committees.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE OR SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Previous teaching experience and demonstrated knowledge of biology and ecology
- Animal Handling Skills
- Ability to communicate both in writing and speaking
- Ability and desire to work with audiences of all ages
- Ability and desire to develop and conduct educational programs
- Ability to work well with staff and supervisors
- Computer skills required: word processing and spreadsheets.
WORK SCHEDULE:
Daily hours will vary according to schedule and activities. Will require weekend and evening work. May require some overnight travel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in wildlife/fisheries, ecology/biology or a related field and four years of experience relating to job function.
STARTING SALARY: $15.00/hour, no benefits
