Summary
TITLE: Assistant Camp Director
LOCATION: Massabesic Center OR McLane Center, New Hampshire
HOURS: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 9:00 am – 4:30 pm, ½ hour unpaid lunch, seasonal full-time, non-exempt (hourly paid). Hours may vary depending on camp needs.
SCHEDULE: Seasonal, full-time position June 13-Aug 19, 2022 (1 week of training, 8 weeks of camp, 1 week of wrap up), possible hours before week of staff training
FUNCTION: This position will support the mission of New Hampshire Audubon: to protect New Hampshire’s natural environment for wildlife and for people, by assisting with the operation and program coordination of an established environmental day camp sponsored by New Hampshire Audubon.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists with summer staff hiring as able
- Assists with and leads staff training.
- Develops and monitors activities.
- Organizes and reviews camper forms and maintains camper records.
- Coordination of ‘Leaders in Training’ program.
- Purchases and maintains camp supplies and equipment.
- Oversees daily camp operations including staff supervision.
- Coordinates special events and special guests.
- Leads camper groups during instructor’s absence.
- Assists instructors with lesson development.
- Acts as liaison and maintains good relationship with the camper’s parents.
- Coordinates all programs and activities.
- Ensure compliance with NH’s COVID safety guidelines for summer camps
- Performs other duties as assigned.
LEADERSHIP: Reports to Slater Roosa (Massabesic Center) OR Shelby Morelli (McLane Center)
WORKING CONDITIONS: Outdoor camp setting; Non-smoking environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in elementary education, environmental education, outdoor education, biology, natural history or related field.
Experience: Must have experience working in a camp setting and teaching children ages 4-15; demonstrated ability to develop creative environmental education activities. Proven leadership and supervisory experience required. Ability to make both independent and collaborative decisions required. Must have Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or equivalent certification or willingness to obtain; CPR certification required. Must complete new Camp Director training if new to position.
Skills, Traits and Characteristics Necessary for Success: Requires exceptional interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm necessary. Minimum age required: 21. Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a criminal background check. Camp uniform required (provided).
Physical Demands: To perform the essential functions of the position, the following applies: excellent physical condition with capability to moderately hike, run and climb, tolerance for variable weather conditions, ability to work in an outdoor setting and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
