The NC Zoo is seeking an enthusiastic School and Library Program Coordinator to be part of its Conservation/Education/Science Section. This position’s professional work involves the research, design, development, coordination, and evaluation of the North Carolina Zoo’s school in-person (onsite and offsite), virtual and self-guided education programs for K-12 students, library programs, teacher workshops, and serves as the liaison to the Asheboro Zoo School.

Summary

The NC Zoo is seeking an enthusiastic School and Library Program Coordinator to be part of its Conservation/Education/Science Section. This position’s professional work involves the research, design, development, coordination, and evaluation of the North Carolina Zoo’s school in-person (onsite and offsite), virtual and self-guided education programs for K-12 students, library programs, teacher workshops, and serves as the liaison to the Asheboro Zoo School. 

Position develops curricula, teaching methods, resources, and any additional classroom support that help teachers meet North Carolina Department of Public Instruction educational goals and align with the standard course of study. Programs take a multidisciplinary approach with a focus on STEM education. Position researches and adds DEAI techniques and appropriate equipment to all programs and educational experiences. Position also trains temporaries in DEAI techniques and equipment use for school and library programs.

Position is responsible for research, development, scheduling, presenting and evaluation of a library program each summer designed to meet the theme of the collaborative summer reading program each year. This program should have both virtual and in-person options as requested. Position trains seasonal staff to present and assist with evaluating program.

Position trains, handles, and presents a variety of animals (invertebrates, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals) for programs as part of classroom and zoo-based programs for teachers and students. This position directly supervises, schedules, coaches, and trains one to two seasonal education staff. This position works cooperatively with staff in other zoo departments and serves as a content expert for teachers and community members while achieving the overall mission of the North Carolina Zoo.
