Summary
The Dive Training Associate position is for the purpose of growing, maintaining, and training of volunteers and interns on land and in-water skills, as well as supporting the recreational dive programs within the Education Department, reporting to the Dive Training Administrator. The current Volunteer Program exists to educate volunteers on the work and scope of CRF and to provide routes for volunteers to participant and assist in restoration work. The current Recreational Dive program exists to educate recreational divers on the work and scope of our organization. The recreational divers participate in a classroom session, brief training, and several dives. CRF Coral Crew, in the form of volunteers, interns or staff, facilitate the dives as “science guides” on these programs, which are coordinated internally with local dive operators or directly with visiting dive groups.
The Dive Training Associate is responsible for: a) supporting the training of volunteers, interns and incoming staff; b) supporting the implementation of recreational dive programs; and c) working collaboratively with all staff to facilitate the success of the Education Department programs.
- Assist in the development and execute a training program that includes the following areas: Scientific Diver, Boat Operations, and Compressor Operations.
- Assist in the development and execute a safety drills program that ensures compliance to best practices and CRF policies.
- Work with Dive Training Administrator and Dive Safety Officer to ensure quality of training, completion of required training, and documentation is kept for all employees, volunteers, and interns.
- Support all scheduled in-water and land training sessions for volunteers and interns following CRF training standards
- Be available to all interns and volunteers during work hours for on-site skill inquiries and training
- Join daily workboats to provide continuing education to interns and volunteers during non-scheduled training sessions
- Work with Dive Training Administrator in maintaining skill training records of interns and volunteers
- Maintain a high level of safety in all aspects of the dive programs; working with the Dive Training Administrator as necessary in a manner that meets or exceeds CRF’s safety standards
- Collaborate in the development of education materials for the dive programs
- Assist Dive Training Administrator in intern presentation skill development
OTHER DUTIES
- Assist with Coral Restoration Foundation’s recreational dive programs on land and in-water
- Support CRF staff and departments in all aspects of CRF’s annual Coralpalooza event.
- Assist with maintenance of Exploration Center as requested or directed.
- Assist in special projects with other departments as requested or directed.
- Assist with implementation of Citizen Science Program as requested or directed.
- Assist with restoration activities as needed.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Personal Characteristics
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Minimum Instructor dive qualification through an internationally recognized certification agency
- Minimum 60 logged dives within the past 5 years of which 10 are from a boat and 30 in the open ocean conditions
- Current CPR, First Aid and Oxygen Administration Instructor.
- Current dive insurance
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word with a strong understanding of general computer technology
