Summary
Our independent, place-based elementary school is seeking a full-time teacher for grades K-2 to join our team.
About the Position:
The teacher is responsible for preparing and implementing instruction and assessment for the students in grades 1-2. This teacher works in collaboration with a co-teacher in a classroom of 20 total students ranging from grades PreK-grade 2 (with 8-12 students in grades 1-2, and the other 8-12 in PreK-K). The teacher is additionally expected to communicate with families, manage the classroom environment, and participate actively in the Faculty Council, or the faculty-led curriculum and planning group for Solid Ground School.
In order to teach according to Solid Ground School’s philosophy and curriculum, a successful candidate should be familiar with project-based, place-based, and emergent curriculum, as well as kind and respectful classroom management strategies. Our ideal candidate is kind, engaged, collaborative, and a proactive communicator. We further value experience teaching reading, working with young children using project-based approaches based on the interests and needs of the individual children in their care, and an authentic belief in the value of nature in the lives of children.
Solid Ground School:
Solid Ground School is a place-based, progressive learning community where children, families, and educators can grow deep. We believe that when individuals are actively engaged in their learning, supported in critical thinking and community building, and rooted in the natural world, they will flourish and become conscientious, creative problem solvers able to face the challenges of an uncertain future.
Solid Ground’s pre-K and elementary program uses hands-on project-based learning to foster in children a growing awareness of their own competency. We offer a student to teacher ratio of 10:1 and are currently accepting students for PreK (age 4) through 4th grade. Our seasonal family-oriented events and outreach programs hope to spread more widely our vision of children secure in themselves, engaged in their communities, and active in our world.
Solid Ground School is an equal opportunity employer. All applicants will be considered for employment without attention to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.
