We are currently accepting applications for a Naturalist Intern to join our staff for the summer of 2022. The position will focus on education and help build skills in planning, preparing and facilitating environmental education programs for all ages. Our interns also gain experience in invasive species, property management and animal care. The Naturalist Intern position is open to college students or recent graduates in environmental education or other related fields of science.

Summary

Our interns also gain experience in invasive species, property management and animal care. The Naturalist Intern position is open to college students or recent graduates in environmental education or other related fields of science. 

Function:  This is a college internship.  Provides assistance to Director/Naturalist in conducting educational programs and other activities for both students and other visitors.  Coordinates and leads student and special groups.

Reports to:  Director/Naturalist

Responsibilities and Duties:

Coordinate and lead 1000 Islands Environmental Center’s educational programs for school and special groups.
Leads interpretive hikes and field trips.
Assists in curriculum and program development for people of all ages.
Assists with animal care and wildlife management programs at the Center.
Learns skills to assist in other areas as needed with the operations of the Nature Center.

Knowledge and Skills:

Ability to communicate with staff and general public.
Ability to assist in coordinating and directing various activities of the Nature Center.

Qualifications:

College student or recent graduate in environmental education or related field of science.
Effective communication skills in working with people of all ages.
High level of self-motivation and enthusiasm.
Be a team player.
