The Natural Areas Guest Services Supervisor reports to the Guest Services Manager. The supervisor oversees daily operation at the Jefferson Memorial Forest Welcome Center, including, but not limited to, program, facility, and campground reservations; gift shop sales; direct and indirect customer service; and related duties. The Supervisor oversees staff responsible for front line customer services including full-time staff, seasonal employees, and volunteers.

Summary

The Natural Areas Guest Services Supervisor reports to the Guest Services Manager.  The supervisor oversees daily operation at the Jefferson Memorial Forest Welcome Center, including, but not limited to, program, facility, and campground reservations; gift shop sales; direct and indirect customer service; and related duties. The Supervisor oversees staff responsible for front line customer services including full-time staff, seasonal employees, and volunteers.

The preferred candidate will have a passion for improving the park user experience, have good communications skills, and be eager to contribute positively in a team environment.  Desirable experience includes familiarity with reservation and point of sale systems; working with volunteers and/or AmeriCorps VISTA, marketing communication (e.g., working with CANVA or related software for design of marketing materials, use of WordPress for website editing, strategic use of social media). Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification preferred, but not required.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervises first line supervisors, crews and seasonal workers who provide customer, hospitality, custodial, safety and security services
  • Prepares daily and weekly work schedules for the unit
  • Responds to complaints, safety, parking, and security issues
  • Exercises supervision over subordinate personnel

Examples of Duties

UNDER ADMINISTRATIVE SUPERVISION

  • Assists in budget preparation and monitors and controls expenditures
  • Responds to complaints and inquiries from the public, and resolves problems and concerns
  • Reviews invoices and billing for accuracy and completeness and recommends payment
  • Orders and receives supplies
  • Plans and organizes guest services including but not limited to customer, hospitality, custodial, security, first aid response, guest parking, crowd control, lost guests and other safety issues
  • Prepares work schedules, evaluates work flow and modifies schedules to improve efficiency and utilization of staff to insure adequate coverage
  • Meets with staff to coordinate group visits, special events, set up of regular and special equipment and maintenance issues
  • Ensures that public areas including but not limited to public walkways, indoor areas and rental locations are cleaned, free from safety hazards and ready for public use
  • Evaluates guest services policies and procedures and recommends modifications
  • Develops and implements a safety program for guest services
  • Reviews timesheets to insure proper pay for staff and to keep expenses within budget allocations
  • Conducts staff meetings to discuss projects, programs, services, special events and to provide answers regarding guest services
  • Operates and assists with rides and attractions for transportation and amusement of guests
  • Performs related work
