As a member of the Summer Camp/ Environmental Education Team, candidates will work with school-aged, and at some sites pre-school aged, children in summer camps, outdoor environmental education programs and specialty/recreational programs. This is a leadership development position and candidates are expected to grow and take on leadership roles.

Successful completion of the program including core training components leads to presentation of Delaware State Parks Camp Leader Apprentice Certificate. Candidates receiving this certification may be able to list this as a preference in seeking other job positions within Delaware State Parks.

Trainings Include:

Summer Camp Director training
Interpretive Skills Training
On-Site Camp Leadership Training
First Aid/CPR
Canoe/Kayak training (based on site)
Additional site-specific training depending on the outdoor activities at each site.

Other Advantages: Camp Director and/or Assistant Director will serve as a mentor to the Apprentice, providing hands-on experience including supervision, program development and implementation, education and care of children and group dynamics.

Apprentices take on increasing leadership roles during the summer with guidance from the Camp Director, culminating in planning and supervising a complete day of camp.
Additional statewide and camp and park trainings and activities.
Limited co-ed shared housing may be available.
